Tecno Milan
Tecno is best expressed in the historical complex of the former Excise Buildings and in the triumphal arch of Porta Garibaldi. The headquarter is located along Corso Garibaldi, which connects the Brera district with Corso Como, a continuously developing area with a strong vibe for design and technology, the brand’s two founding values.
The need to create a meeting place and a dynamic presentation and research hub on the subject of design has transformed Tecno Caselli di Porta Garibaldi into TClub: an innovative project where analogue and digital come together in a collective and shared venue, a place of exchange, to create ideas and form a community.
Piazza XXV Aprile 11

Background
The 19th Century complex comprising the former Excise Buildings in Piazza XXV Aprile in Milan was built in two stages, based on the design of the Neoclassical architect Giacomo Moraglia. Milanese tradesmen wanted to remember the visit paid to the city by Francis I and so built the Triumphal Arch in 1826, to adorn the former Porta Comasina - now known as Porta Garibaldi - placing it as a diaphragm on the city’s north-south access artery. In 1834, the area was completed by the construction of two side excise buildings to play host to the Finance Police and the Army, which were already included in the original project dating back to 1826.
Refurbishment
In 2008, following a lengthy refurbishment and functional adaptation process, Tecno inaugurated its new Milanese headquarters inside the 19th Century building. This was the first refurbishment project affecting the perimeter of the historic city of Milan, which was followed by the refurbishment of all the city’s other gates. By retrieving the original project according to criteria which valued its history and integration with its surroundings, Tecno has thus given Milan back gentrified buildings with renovated spaces and state-of-the-art technology to bring to the light the layers of history which the excise buildings have played host to over the centuries.
TClub: a shared project
In 2020, the premises at the former Excise Buildings in Porta Garibaldi became TClub: a lively operational hub open to the brand’s community, a place to swap ideas and talk about design. A veritable coworking venue, which tells the story of how work has evolved, a place designed to welcome nomadic people, designed to accommodate alternating remote collaborations and new moments of collective participation. Tecno has worked with a range of partner organizations – all of them leaders in their respective sectors – in order to create this space and maximize its functionality, using IO.T Solutions technology to manage collaborations with: Lutron, Maticmind, Philips and Meroni Technology.
TClub is nominated ADI Design Index
TClub is therefore a collective and shared project, which offers a new way to communicate the brand’s expertise and present its products, but also a forum for networking and an opportunity to meet up and build community spirit, which is why it was selected for the annual ADI Design Index 2021 publication in the “Services design” category.
The design gate
The former Excise Buildings, I Caselli, constantly bringing together their classic architecture with their modern contents, constitute an active hub in the world of design thanks to a series of initiatives which are set to make it the Multi-Functional Gate of Design. A place for architects, interior designers and the city’s specifiers to meet up and network, a point of reference to be used as a sounding board and to find innovative solutions. A place where they can experience and experiment with the future, where on the one hand the brand stages its heritage through the pieces which have made the brand’s history and on the other tells the story of its unwavering research into new ways of working and living.
